Extending rural and remote coverage using small cells
Document number: SCF047
This paper addresses the rural and remote coverage problem and suggests that the use of small cell technology represents an economic alternative to macrocells. Where DSL backhaul is in place there is an argument for adapting home femtocell technology to rural or remote needs. However, other small cell strategies could deliver coverage more cost-effectively and in the many rural areas where DSL is unavailable.
