Business drivers for virtualized small cells

This paper argues that the benefits of vRAN are often more immediate, and the risks and barriers lower, in the small cell layer, than in the macro RAN. It suggests operators see small cells as a way to test vRAN technologies, management and cost structures without too much impact on their main networks. However, it also sees small cell vRAN deployments supporting new use cases and delivering new revenues, especially from enterprise deployments.
